Happy almost spring!
Lately, I've been thinking about reviews.Â
Authors are always talking about reviews, asking readers to leave them everywhere possible, particularly retail sites, particularly Amazon. This is because that’s where reviews make the most difference. That’s where algorithms kick in and start showing the book to more people — more than we can reach on our own.Â
This makes a huge difference to authors, particularly to debut, small, and midlist authors. A healthy number of (primarily positive) ratingss/reviews could make THE difference in the success of a book — and in the author’s ability to publish another book in the future.
I’ve been thinking about how to get more reviews of NIGHTRENDER, my newest book. I’m SO grateful to everyone who’s rated and reviewed it so far, but it needs more.Â
Here is what I propose:
If, by the time DAWNBREAKER releases next year, the number of reviews/ratings on Amazon reaches 500, I will knit a pair of wings and run a giveaway for it.
Â
I know 500 is a lot, but judging by the numbers on my other books, 500 is achievable. (I was going to propose 1,000, but that seemed unlikely. But hey. Prove me wrong. If we get to 1k reviews on Amazon, I’ll make a second set of wings. Here's the link to paste in your review right now.)
So that’s my ask and my offer. 500 reviews/ratings on Amazon for a wings giveaway.Â
Wings take me over 45 hours to knit. The yarn is $50. Making them is a significant effort. I wouldn’t do it unless that number of reviews would truly make a difference to my book.
A few more notes:
To post a review on Amazon, you only need an account. You can buy or borrow the book from anywhere and still post a review. (Indie bookstores are great. So are libraries. BN is good too! I've got links below!)
While I hope you love NIGHTRENDER, and positive reviews are obviously the most helpful when it comes to these things, I want you to know that I won’t be keeping an eye on the content of reviews, only the number. All honest reviews are appreciated.
NIGHTRENDER is available in hardcover, ebook, and audiobook, so you can read it in whatever way is most comfortable for you.
