Happy New Year to the folks I haven’t said it to yet!
We’ve just had some beautiful snow, so it’s gorgeous and still outside. This morning, I spotted little bunny tracks outside my window. I’d say I’ll leave it open for them, but, well, it’s cold, and I don’t know that I want everyone from The Outside coming in. (Anyway, my cats would not suffer a bunny to live. I am, right now in fact, playing fetch with Hush so she can practice what it would be like if unsuspecting prey were to enter the house.)
For the readers
So anyway, smooth transition goes here, it’s the perfect time to curl up and read a book or two. To make that even easier for you, two of my books are on sale in ebook format! (This might be US only, but it’s worth checking regardless.)
NIGHTRENDER is only $0.99. This is is perfect timing because DAWNBREAKER is out, so you can read the whole series!
MY LADY JANE is only $2.99; AND it’s on sale in audiobook, too, for only $4.99!1
These books have been on sale for a couple of weeks now and I don’t know how much longer those deals will last.
In true Being An Author tradition, I found out about the NIGHTRENDER sale because I got a promotional email from BookBub saying I might be interested in it. Oh BookBub you know me so well that I might be interested in a book with my name on the front cover. But I’ve already read it! Several times!
And, as I have the pleasure of saying all the time now when it comes to MY LADY JANE: Read it before you see it! (I don’t have any details about the show to share with you right now, but . . . I can say I think we’ll be hearing more very soon.)
For the writers
I sent a couple of letters for the Writing and Publishing section recently:
In this one, I covered how I’m going to make life easier for myself in 2024, with a few details about how I use my “planner” and how I’m drastically adjusting the way I use social media.
And speaking of social media, I also wrote seven tips to survive it. If you’re an author planning to use socials, I really, really recommend you read this one.
Coming up soon, I have a letter answering the question about whether there’s room for newcomers in traditional publishing — and another one about whether authors actually need websites. If you want to make sure you get those when I send them, make sure you’re getting emails for the “writing and publishing” section here.
For the future
This is . . . news about news. As in: I will have news very soon. And the first place to hear about this news (and . . . see the thing I know you’re going to want to see) is right here, in my newsletter.
Honestly, I’ve been sitting on it for a long time now — almost two years. And when the news comes in just a couple of weeks, it’s going to be everything.
So . . . I’m sorry to just tease about it, but holy moly I have been dying to tell you.
Here’s a cat picture. (And if you want to see a couple of short videos of me spinning on this wheel, you can see them here and here. I’ll probably post a few more coming up; I’ve enjoyed making them.)
For some housekeeping
Survey
I have a survey here, to help me get to know you better. It’s just a few questions about what you want from this newsletter, whether you’ve read any of my books, and how you found either of them. The answers are all anonymous, so please feel free to be honest. Your answers will (hopefully) help me deliver better newsletters.
Last year, I sent about four to six emails a month: one for the news and updates (this section!), one for paid subscribers, and one or two for the writing and publishing section. The knit night emails happen only occasionally. (As you can see if you follow the link, the last one I sent was in August.)
But that’s not really a schedule, is it? And maybe it’s too many emails or (somehow . . .) not enough? So depending what the answers are, I’d like to establish an actual schedule.
Discounts on paid subscriptions
A few of you have let me know that you want to support the newsletter, but can’t swing the current price. I get it! So! After some searching around the back-end options, I worked out another way to get a lower price — below the minimum I can set as a regular price — and set up a “pay what you can” series of discounts:
get 33% off an annual subscription ($33.50/year)
get 50% off an annual subscription ($25/year)
get 66% off an annual subscription ($17/year)
Note: these discounts are only for annual plans. To take advantage of one of these discounts, you must use the links above. These discounts won’t work with a free trial or using the regular subscription button.
These discounts don’t expire, so you can continue at the reduced rate for as long as you want.
To get free access to all the paid-only letters, you can use the referral feature. When you refer enough friends using the share/refer buttons — and they subscribe — you get a month (or more) automatically comped.
And of course, I want to remind you that you should not feel obligated! I opened the paid subscriptions to help justify all the time I spend writing the writing and publishing letters. A few of you have, and I’m so, so grateful. It truly does help make writing those letters more sustainable.
As always, the best thing anyone can do to support me is to buy my books, tell your friends about my books, and leave reviews on retail sites where other readers can spot them.
And that’s it for now! I hope you have a wonderful week! Let me know what you’re reading and whether I should read it, too!
I linked to the BookBub page since it has links to all the retailers, but you won’t see the reduced price there. You’ll see it if you go to the retailer though!
Teeeeease 😉
I can't wait!!!
