Yes yes to all of this! Barnes and Noble, writer group chats, etc. And man I'm still trying to figure out what the heck to do with those author copies.
I love these articles, your advice is really helpful! A very enthusiastic YES to the author group chat - bonus points if it's authors with the same publisher. Then you can have specific ketches! "Why does this publisher hate money?" "Has anyone heard from Liz this summer? Is she alive?"
While I do think it's valuable to have a chat with people in the same space as you, I'd really recommend a chat with authors with different publishers, too. It helps you gauge what is "normal" for the industry as a whole and gives you access to a variety of experiences and publishing "levels."
I just picked up BY FOREVER from my local indie bookstore!
Ahh, thank you! I'm really glad to hear that!

Short term: BOOK FORT. Long term . . . *sobs*
Such great advice, Jodi! Especially how much much easier it is to give away sets of books rather than just one at a time!
A good argument for shorter series, I think. Imagine trying to store sets of a giant fantasy epic with fourteen volumes. . . .

These are great! I'm writing down number 1 (and 1.5) for later, so i don't forget!
Great advice! Thanks 😊.
