FIRST THING FIRST.
Here’s the cover!
Isn’t she amazing??? I absolutely love the color choice, the way Nightrender is facing a dark fissure, the curl in her fists — she means business! Ahhh, these two books are going to look so good together!
Please feel free to share the cover far and wide! And keep an eye out in about a month for an exclusive excerpt shared on Tor.com! (Don’t worry — I’ll send you a note when it’s up!)
But wait, there’s more good news! You can already preorder DAWNBREAKER.
One More Page (signed and personalized copy!)
If you’re into signed books, make sure you order from my besties at One More Page. They will also have some kind of extra special goodie — even though I don’t know what that is yet. They ship domestically and internationally.1
There may be other indie bookstores you can order signed books from (or books with signed bookplates!), but we’re not that far into the process yet. I’ll keep you updated!
Why should you preorder, you may be asking? (Or not. You’ve probably heard this before.)
Because it helps my publisher know how many books to print.2 It helps the bookstores know how many copies to order. And it helps me keep this job. (Thanks!)
Anyway, preordering is great because it makes life easier for a lot of different people. And also you know you’re getting a copy of the book for sure, even if stores run out and there’s a line at the printer for the next run. You won’t have to wonder when you’ll be able to get yours.
And now for the question portion of this email.
For most of my books, I’ve done preorder campaigns where you send me an email with your receipt and I send something in the mail to you. This is time consuming and expensive,3 but it opens it to everyone (until I run out of stuff, anyway) and wherever they order from.
For NIGHTRENDER, I didn’t have the time to do all that. Or the physical energy. Or the mental fortitude. So I didn’t. Instead, if you preordered from one of the independent bookstores I was virtually visiting, your stuff came to you with the book from the bookstore. This was much, much easier for me! And, uh, much cheaper.4
I haven’t decided what to do for DAWNBREAKER yet. So what do you think? Did you like preorder goodies being exclusive to independent bookstores? Or should I go back to the way I did it before?
Also, what kind of stuff do you like? For NIGHTRENDER, I had amazing character art of Nightrender herself! Should I commission art of Hanne and Rune so you can have a set of all three main characters? I also had beautiful stickers and bookmarks designed by Hey Atlas Creative. Do you want more?
You can leave a comment on the Substack page or email me to let me know what you want. I can’t promise I’ll be able to do everyone’s suggestions! But getting your feedback will help me make the best decision for some of my favorite readers. (That’s you!)
One last thing!
Now that DAWNBREAKER is coming up (November 7!!!), I want to remind you about the potential knitted wings giveaway. Here’s my full post on it, but the gist is this: if NIGHTRENDER reaches 500 ratings and reviews on Amazon by the time DAWNBREAKER releases, I will knit a new set of wings and run an international giveaway for it.
This is the only way I’m willing to do that kind of giveaway, since knitting these wings takes a significant amount of yarn and close to 50 hours. Reviews on Amazon really are that valuable to me.
Okay, I have to go back to staring at DAWNBREAKER and imagining holding the finished book in my hands. Thanks for being the absolute greatest.
Order NIGHTRENDER:
One More Page (they might have some leftover signed copies!)

Shipping costs are determined by the post office; this isn’t something they can control.
This is actually more important than you may realize! There’s still a pretty massive paper shortage and getting a slot at the printer can be tricky. Knowing early how much paper they’ll need is immensely helpful.
It’s a one-woman operation over here. I sort through hundreds (ily for preordering!!) of emails, write out addresses by hand, stuff all the envelopes by hand, and buy stamps to send everything, including international stamps.
Domestic forever stamps are currently .63 cents and global stamps are currently $1.45. Soooo . . . . No, let’s not do that math. Not today.
A truly epic cover!! 😍😍
The cover is fantastic!!!
