When I type out all the things I'm working on, it does seem like a lot, actually!
This is your June update!
Hello, you! Yes, you! I hope you’re having a great June so far.
This will be a pretty quick update, since I don’t have a lot of news news, just some updates about what I’m working on. And a cat photo, obviously.
What I’m working on:
MY SALTY MARY
Again, you say? Yes again. Always. Until someone at Harper takes the book away from us. (So, July.)
We’re in the editing stage now, getting the structure adjusted juuuust right and the character development smoothed out. I’m really proud of how this book is turning out. It’s taken us longer than I’d hoped (or had scheduled time for), but I really only want to put my name on books I’m proud of.
So we’re digging into the next draft now, and then we’ll be on to line edits in July.
Mysterious thing I’ll hint about but can’t talk about
About to be editing. Also due in July.

Proposal for a new project
As usual, I’m looking ahead a couple of years and thinking about what book to write and (hopefully!) sell next. I’ve discussed a few options with my agent and we quickly agreed as to what I should focus on next.
I usually start out with a proposal for my agent — synopsis, outline, query-style description, and other notes that will help me write the book and her sell the book when the time comes.
DAWNBREAKER release!
Can you believe DAWNBREAKER is only a few months away?
Book releases have started sneaking up on me lately (maybe because I have so many other projects I’m working on at the same time??), but today I sent a few emails to folks who’ve created and designed custom bookmarks and stickers for me before.
As usual, I’ll have some kind of preorder giveaway going. I don’t know exactly how I’m going to do it this year,1 but if you want to make sure you get everything, your safest bet is to order the book from One More Page.
I’ll probably add a few more bookstores to the list of places that will definitely have all the swag, no matter how I run this preorder campaign, but I’ll have to update you as I hear back.
Preorder DAWNBREAKER:
One More Page (signed and personalized copy! all the swag!)
MY IMAGINARY MARY paperback release!
Great news, paperback readers! MY IMAGINARY MARY is coming to paperback next month!
Look how pretty she is. Very floppy. She will match your other paperback copies of the Lady Janies books perfectly. Paperbacks also make great gifts, sooo . . .

That’s all my updates for now!
Remember that you can customize what kind of emails you get from me!
You’re getting the news and updates one right now, in this email! Writing and publishing is pretty obvious, I think. Knit night is yarn, clearly; I don’t post there often, but I do have something coming up. And Extra Special is for paid subscribers; if you’re not paid, you (mostly) won’t get anything from that one (except for when I send a preview), but if you do go paid, make sure you have that segment turned on!
And before I go, here are a few of my recent writing/publishing posts you might have missed:
I have a lot of new readers on this newsletter (omg hi!!!) so I thought I might re-share a few of my older writing-related posts that may be interesting to you. And if you like them, please consider sharing them with others!
Now . . . back to my deadlines!
*poof*
In past years, I’ve collected receipts, addressed envelopes, and sent everything individually to folks who preordered. I know you guys love that. And I generally don’t mind doing it, either. But it is a lot of work (and quite expensive when you factor in postage). With NIGHTRENDER’s release, I had a few bookstores I was doing events with, and if you ordered the book from any of them, you got all the swag with the book; that was all I could handle during that release. This release is really just going to depend how I’m doing in, let’s say, September, when I for sure need to decide.
